Last week, I shared my goals of getting through revisions and writing two more chapters. Well I did complete revisions on the first 1/3 of my contemporary YA romance, and did a lot of work with my outline. I thought that is all I would have to say but I just finished writing another chapter!! So I may not have completely met my goals, but the point is to aim high, right? 🙂
Current Word Count: 21,602! It is so funny how every time I edit, the word count kept dwindling and I keep reminding myself that this is a good thing–it just means my writing is getting tighter. But if I hadn’t edited anything yet, I’m almost scared to know how big my word count would be!
Little Hints: Writing this story had me learning about 6 inch lift kit and Super Swamper tires. I’d never really knew they existed, but now I do. I’m also now in the mood to go mud riding because of it, ha!
Soundtrack Song of the Week: The song I’m sharing from my story soundtrack this week is one of girl’s favorites– Sugarland’s Mean Girls! What would the high school experience have been like without mean girls?
Writing or Editing Trick Used This Week That Worked Particularly Well:
Not sure if this is really a trick, but having gone through the editing process so much made moving on today easier than expected. As much as I thought I knew my characters before, it is so cool how they just come to life more and more as you write.
Personal High: Having my teenage niece tell me she was enjoying my story. Yeah, she’d just read a few pages but I think all stories get better the deeper you get into it, anyway. And just getting her honest, enthusiastic feedback was so great. ALSO, jumping back into the actual writing process again and having it go much easier than expected after a few weeks of editing.
Personal Low: Seeing some of my “babies” cut from my outline and even my manuscript. I know that every cut I make leads to a better story and I can’t hold onto funny scenes or witty writing just because I love them–if it doesn’t fit or doesn’t add to the story, it’s got to go!
Writing Goal For the Coming Week: Finish Noah Lukeman’s First Five Pages and write 4 chapters.
HAPPY WRITING!
