Next week heralds the beginning of NaNoWriMo!
The point of this write-fest is to complete 50,000 words in 30 days. People from all over the globe will be writing their novels from start to finish, going to the site linked above for encouragement and inspiration. They will be loading up on coffee, coke, chocolate and No-Doz. They will be dreaming of plot developments, turning points, witty dialogue, cliffhangers and happy endings.
What will I be doing? I will be participating, but in my own way. The point of NaNoWriMo is to begin from scratch. Well I am at approximately 34,000 words in my WIP so that would definitely not be from scratch, and I have no interest in starting a new project until this one is completed. However, I can still dedicate the month of November to finishing what I’ve started!
The seventh year anniversary celebrating marriage to my supportive, amazing husband is November 28th. This weekend, over margaritas at Chilis, he informed me that for our anniversary, he wants to be able to read my completed manuscript. And I want to meet that goal, too.
So, according to my handy dandy outline, I have about 26 scenes left to write. That gives me 34 days to finish my book before November 28th (that is in my math is correct, which isn’t always the case. My husband is going to be in charge of overseeing our girls Math curriculum in our homeschool. I am a words girl.) I know I am not going to write on Sundays–it is football season, people. Saturdays are also full of football so while it is possible I might have the mornings to work, I am assuming that won’t be every week. But if I write a scene a day Monday-Friday, it should be a totally accomplishable goal.
Are there any other “cheaters” out there? Participants who are bending the rules a bit? I think I’d feel too guilty to actually sign up on the site itself, but should I? Any former NaNos–btw, does anyone think of Mork and Mindy when they say that??–care to give me any tips?
Happy Writing Everyone!!
