Nano has officially begun. The goal of the endeavor is to write 1,667 words a day everyday and complete 50k words in 30 days. As you know, I’m in the middle of my first novel, but I am using this experience as a Kick in the Butt to get my writing done!
Once I complete my manuscript, I will dive into revision mode with as much intensity as I gave to the writing–and since it is my first draft of my first ever novel, it will be like writing all over again. The voice and certain plot elements have changed now that I know the characters better.
With such intense writing, my blog posting schedule may alter a bit this month. I just can’t find the time to read the 3-5 books a week I’m used to while working on my own novel so intensely, so my Spotlights may not be every week in November. But being in the middle of such writing intensity has led to me searching out inspiration via blog posts more than ever so I’ll be linking to many of these in the coming weeks (side note, I am also going to do this with my Twitter account and would love to have you follow me there!)
Today, I wanted to let you know about a wonderful contest at Operation Awesome. You need only your title, genre and pitch, and be in the first 50 people to respond to be entered. This is a secret agent contest and the last one they did was judged by the AMAZING Mandy Hubbard and led to representation!
Also I’ll Name My Typewriter After the Moon has a week’s worth of inspirational and informative posts gearing up for Nano. These were very helpful and definitely worth a look if you haven’t yet checked them out!
And here are a few blog posts that I found especially helpful this weekend:
Help! I Need A Publisher! has a great post on the proper use of Dialogue Techniques
Chatterbox Chitchat shares Plotting Tips We All Could Use
Glass Cases continues the discussion on the term “Strong Female Character” and explains what she means when she says she is looking for it in novels she represents in Strength, Weakness, & Why Everyone Gets Feminism Wrong
Finally, Terrible Minds offers the aptly timed and informative NaNoWhoNow? NaNoWriMo Dos And Don’ts
Please remember to buddy me on Nano if you are participating (I am The Ending Unplanned). If you are participating, please leave your name in the comments so I can buddy you!
Happy Writing Everyone!
