I just got finished reading a book that I have been salivating over since I first saw the cover . . . and let me tell you, it lived up to the drool. There is so much to love about Obsidian, I’m not sure where to freaking start!
First, let me give you the Goodreads blurb:

Okay, one of my favorite parts of this story was actually something totally surprising that many people may overlook, but for me, it totally elevated the book to another level. Katy’s book blog, her continual mentions of popular MEMEs such as “Waiting On” Wednesday or “In My Mailbox”, her love affair with blog comments, and the general excitement over reading in general just made this story special. It made Katy even more relatable, and it felt like Jennifer wrote this story as a love letter to all the book blog reviewers who have supported her over the years. Writers are always looking for unique traits to bring to characters, special hobbies to make them stand out and show their personalities, and I think Jennifer found a perfect, unique one here.
Then, of course, any discussion of this book would be remiss without mentioning the CHEMISTRY exploding off the pages! Seriously, my favorite line in the book: Like and lust must not have anything in common. Not only did this line make me laugh out loud, but it perfectly fits these two for most of the book. It’s YA, they are on the cover together, and you can feel the attraction between these two, so you knew they are/were gonna hook up at some point in the series . . . but I don’t know if I can think of another book or another couple that exemplifies chemistry than this. I’m kind of in awe, to tell you the truth.
I love the friendship between Katy and Dee. The relationship between Katy and her mom was sweet and sad. The loyalty between all the friendships in this book just rocked. I’m a character driven writer and reader–I want to care about my characters, and I want to know that THEY care about people, too. I love to see connection, and Obsidian had it in spades.
Unique, fresh, fun plot. Amazing action, steam my kindle screen hotness. Sexy, funny, and sweet. Obsidian has it all. Cannot wait for ONYX!
