The Oddity That Makes My Husband Laugh

Posted by rachelha in Makes ME / Leave a Comment

Okay, that’s a bit of a misnomer. There are MANY odd things that I do that make my husband laugh. He can’t help it, I’m a rare mix of spastic, silly weirdness.

BUT I must admit, there’s one thing he recently pointed out that even has me laughing at myself.

WARNING: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I’m a dork. You have been warned . . .

So, here’s a little glimpse into my unique brand of madness. The particular oddity that has my husband rolling his eyes and laughing at me the most lately is my interesting use of goggles.

And sadly, no. I’m not talking about an article of clothing.

First, a bit of backstory. I suffer from sympathy pains. If you ever tell me a story, I’m gonna laugh at all the funny parts, smile at the sweet parts, and grimace and clutch my stomach at the painful parts. I can’t help it. I connect emotionally with people, whether in person, in a book, or on TV. And it’s the latter that leads to my husband’s laughter.

Apparently when we’re at home, cuddling on the sofa watching one of our comedies–or even if it’s something like Restaurant Impossible where you get a peek at people’s mortifiying secrets–, and something embarrassing happens, without realizing it, I form small circles with my hands and slap them over my eyes.

 Kinda like that.

I don’t know when it started. Or even understand the method behind my madness. All I know is that doing it helps me watch the episode easier. Somehow, it gives me a sense of control over the impossible, horrifyingly embarrassing situation I’m having to witness. And it also allows me to watch the show without having to leave the room!

Did I mention I was a touch odd?

Now if you ever find yourself cringing at the screen with no way to alleviate your anxiety, you can try my handy dandy, completely free, hand goggles. One size fits all and guaranteed to make life bearable.  If the scene you’re watching suddenly escalates and your anxiety increases? Simply tighten the circle of your hands, minimizing the size of the picture.

Instant relief, I’m telling ya.

So if I haven’t TOTALLY scared you off, I’d love to know some of YOUR oddities. What odd things do YOU do that make your friends or significant others laugh, roll their eyes, and shake their heads with a grin?
