Crushes Make You Do Some CRAZY Things … My First Crush PLUS Taste The Heat Links

This week is so fun for me 🙂 Along with it being week 2 of the Taste the Heat blog tour, and squeeing over all the love (over 50 reviews on Amazon in a week, y’all. I’m so excited!), this week my Flirt Squad is talking childhood crushes. Why childhood crushes, you may ask? Well, Colby, the heroine in TTH, had a massive crush on fire captain Jason all her childhood life, filling her diary with thoughts of him. And we’re sharing our own stories. The posts have been so fun to read!

Yesterday, I shared a childhood diary entry from 1991. Yeah, that’s how much I love you guys.

Before we get to TODAY’s story, here are the stops where you can visit me…and please, share a comment if you can to show support for these fabulous bloggers hosting me? 😉

Books Mystify has a 4 star review and Reader Girls has a fun excerpt! Remember you can enter to win a HUGE prize pack at all of these stops!

And now, for today’s story. I was a boy crazy child, so I have a lot to choose from…but today, I’m going way back. Back to what I believe was my first ever crush.

Get comfy, y’all.

The year is 1984. The lovely little girl with the long brown hair and big hazel eyes is four years old. Her best friend is the little boy who lives next door…and her heart belongs to his older brother.

Doug was a couple years older, I can’t really remember. We moved away a couple years later and lost touch. But the point is he was older, and in my little girl eyes, he was the bomb. He was nice and played with me and was just a good kid.

Now, I don’t do well with confrontation. Still, to this day, I avoid it at all costs. The way I come across on social media, happy and positive and encouraging to other people? That’s how I’ve always been. I like people getting along, want everyone to do well, and want EVERYONE to like me LOL. I’m working on getting a slightly thicker skin. But, I digress…

So, four-year-old Rachel really didn’t like confrontation. I’d never gotten in trouble and I don’t recall my parents ever raising their voice or fighting. So when I was at my best friend’s house playing, and his mom started yelling at my beautiful, wonderful, handsome crush? I FLIPPED OUT!!

Here’s another tidbit about me: I hate confrontation, but I’m fiercely protective. Also, when confronted, since I’m not used to it, my first response is tears, and I get embarrassed about said tears, so I make a fool of myself. I did that here.

Back to flipping out. With tears in my eyes, and falling down my cheeks, I fisted my hands on my hips and I screamed back. Oh yes. I did that. I told her that it wasn’t his fault–I don’t think I knew what the problem was, but certainly he could do no wrong–and that she shouldn’t yell and hurt his feelings. Then, I ran.

I bolted.

I shot out their front door and into mine and went straight to my room. Apparently, the mom followed and, laughing hysterically, told my mom what happened. Her words were, “You must not yell in your house.”

he he

So there you have one snippet memory of my first crush. I’m fierce, y’all.

Do you have any memories like this? Ever did anything COMPLETELY out of character in the name of a crush?
