Welcome to the Hunt!

Greetings, y’all! I’m Rachel Harris and I write Fun & Flirty romance about sassy girls-next-door and the hot guys that make them swoon. This year has been quite busy, releasing two Young Adult books (The Fine Art of Pretending and My Not So Super Sweet Life), as well as the third in my adult Love & Games series (Accidentally Married on Purpose). Between my publishing adventures, attending conferences, and homeschooling my children, life is always pretty crazy, but that’s just the way I like it. No one ever accused me of being normal 😉

As a proud bookaholic, this event is so up my alley, and it’s my extreme pleasure to participate again. There are so many wonderful authors and books to discover–especially on team RED!

If you’re new to the hunt, here’s how it goes….as you hop along the tour, you’ll be granted access to exclusive content from your favorite YA authors and get a chance to win amazing prizes. Each post also contains a special clue–collect them all to enter for a chance to win a major prize.

ALSO be sure to check out this bottom of this post for an extra prize!!

One lucky winner will receive at least one signed book from each author in my team! And people, let me tell you… The RED TEAM is incredible!

Start here or head to the YA SCAVENGER HUNT homepage to learn more about the hunt, find links to the participating authors, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs. Several contests are going on simultaneously, all with a completely different set of signed books, and you can enter them all!

** Be sure to play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online until noon PST on Sunday October 5th! **

Now that all the technical stuff is out of the way, we can get to the goods!!

For my stop on this hunt, I’m thrilled to host author Ann Aguirre!

Ann Aguirre is a New York Times, PW & USA Today bestselling author with a degree in English Literature; before she began writing full time, she was a clown, a clerk, a voice actress, and a savior of stray kittens, not necessarily in that order. She grew up in a yellow house across from a cornfield, but now she lives in sunny Mexico with her husband, children, and various pets. She likes books, emo music, and action movies. She writes all kinds of genre fiction for adults and teens.

To stalk Ann, head over to her Website and on Twitter.

Ann is the author of  MORTAL DANGER and here’s the 411:

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn’t imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She’s not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, and he’s impossible to forget.

In one short summer, her entire life changes, and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly… bad things are happening. It’s a heady rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turns from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil’s bargains, she isn’t sure who—or what–she can trust. Not even her own mind…

YASH Exclusive Content: Character Interview with Kian!

If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?

Wow. I only recently got free of Wedderburn, so it’s kind of amazing to imagine doing whatever I want. I guess I’d take Edie out and spend the day with her. Honestly I don’t even care what we do or where we go. It’s incredible to think that I can see her and talk to her anytime I want. I… never thought that would happen.
What impression do you make on people when they first meet you? How about after they’ve known you for a while?

They usually try to hook up or get my number within the first ten minutes. That gets old. I’m so tired of this face, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. I’m probably not as cool as people first imagine me to be. My interests aren’t very extreme. But I rarely stick around long for anyone to realize that.

What are you most proud of about your life?

The fact that Edie likes my poetry. God, that’s so cheesy. But I never let anyone read it before, really. It’s not like I’ve been published in journals or have any kind of exposure. I’ve never gone on stage or read anything aloud. I was dying inside when she made me share some but I was happy too. I know I probably can’t make a living with it, but it’s cool to have that back. I stopped writing for a while, and… well, this is getting kind of deep.

What are you most ashamed of in your life?

The fact that I did nothing when people hurt the girl I love. Edie says there are extenuating circumstances, but that doesn’t change how I feel.

If you could spend the day with anyone in the world (living ,dead or imaginary),  who would you pick?

My sister. I miss her so much. I couldn’t imagine a world without her in it. This sounds cliche but we were actually friends. I mean, I think we were. They say after a while, you start to idealize the people you’ve lost. But she was just so cool. Smart and popular but she always made time to hang out with her dorky little bro.

Do you think you’ve turned out the way your parents expected?

I can’t talk about my mom and dad. Sorry. There’s too much to say and a lot I don’t understand, and it just… it hurts, that’s all. For so many reasons.

What’s the worst thing that’s happened in your life? What did you learn from it?

My dad’s suicide. And what do you mean, what I did learn? That life is horrible and death is the only exit? Apparently I learned nothing since I tried to kill myself too. I guess cowardice runs in my family, huh? Good thing I probably won’t live long enough to reproduce.

What would you like it to say on your tombstone?

Wow, this is a dark interview. How about “Kian Riley is buried here. Be glad it’s not you.” That should make people laugh, which would be a plus in a cemetery. No, actually, I’d like to be cremated and have my ashes interred at a columbarium. That’s a fancy word, right? Basically it’s a memorial shrine place where you have a niche and your loved ones decorate it with pictures of you and keep your ashes in a decorative jar, then they come talk to you. I like that idea better than slow decomp in the dirt.

Describe your ideal mate.

That would be Edie Kramer. She’s… everything. Smart, funny, sharp as hell. Right now she’s beautiful too but that doesn’t even factor. I’d love her no matter what she looked like. Sometimes I can’t stand the fact that I’ll never find out what she looks like when she’s old. Somebody else will get to be the rickety old bastard holding hands with her in the park and helping her step down from the curb because her bones are all fragile. Which is a weird thing to imagine, I know, but that future will never, ever be mine. But saving her? Worth it. I’d do it again.

What are you most afraid of?

Dying. Ironic, but now I have something to lose, somebody to live for. But my time’s running out. I made a deal and you don’t screw the Harbinger. This has been fun, but I gotta go. Edie’s waiting. We’re supposed to go Christmas shopping. So… if I don’t see you again, take care.

SEE?? This is what I adore about the Hunt! The exposure to amazing authors and books I somehow missed and will now be hunting (ha! I totally crack myself up) at my local bookstore.

Don’t forget to enter the CONTEST to win a ton of signed books by me, Ann, and a ton of others! To enter, you need to know my favorite number…a number that just happens to be in my debut YA title, My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century.

(Just in case that wasn’t clear–*grin*–my favorite number is 16)

Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the RED TEAM and you’ll have the secret code to enter for the grand prize!
